Vaci Utca, Budapest, Hungary

Vaci Utca

Vaci Utca is the main pedestrian street in downtown Pest. This is where the action happens! Due to the many tourists who visit Budapest it’s not uncommon to hear German or English spoken more than Hungarian.

Since tourists flock to this area of Budapest prices are higher as a general rule. The name-brand shops such as Adidas, Mango, and other major retailers will have the same prices as most of Europe. Smaller shops selling souvenirs will generally be more expensive. The currency exchange rates aren’t too bad though, and you might get a better deal here than at a hotel.

Restaurants along Vaci Utca are generally more expensive than elsewhere in Budapest, and very touristy. They are still good value for the money though and are a far better alternative to Burger King or McDonalds. They also serve more than just traditional Hungarian dishes, and most menus are available in English, and sometimes German.
